Waiting list for relaunched club
Report by Martin Ferdinando
Club 2000 the recently re-launched Junior Youth Club, held at the North Mymms Youth and Community Centre, has proved so popular that new membership has had to be closed as numbers have now exceeded 60.
There is now a waiting list for prospective new members aged 7-12.
The club which has a varied itinery of events and meets on Tuesday evenings 6.30 - 8.00pm during term time had to close last year due to a lack of adult helpers.
Staffed entirely by volunteers, the huge demand for membership demonstrates how much the club is needed in the area. Fortunately, new volunteers did come forward which enabled the club to re-open, but further help is always welcome.
In a separate development, Hertfordshire County Council's Youth Service who managed a teenager's youth club is currently re-evaluating its decision to withdraw its support from North Mymms.
This was taken after two of the Youth Workers who had been employed at the Centre for over 20 years had to resign due to other commitments.
Numerous complaints have been received by local councillors and the police from local businesses and residents as a result of young people having nowhere to go following the closure of the club, also last year.
It is hoped that progress can be made to re-open the facility as soon as funding and staffing arrangements have been made.
