|Best Kept Village Runner Up
Brookmans Park, has been voted second best-kept-village in Hertfordshire. The title for the large-village section was won by Welwyn. Last year the title was held by Brookmans Park.
Welham Green came third and nearby Northaw came fourth place in the small village contest. Woolmer Green won an Award of Merit from the judges.
In all, a total of 78 villages were considered in the competition organised by the Welwyn-based Campaign for the Protection of Rural England.
North Mymms Parish Council vice-chairman Bill Storey praised the efforts of the authoritys groundsmen who he said had worked hard on the flowerbeds and grass in Brookman Park's Bradmore Green as well as the grassed areas of Welham Green.
The churchyards were maintained by local residents and allotment holders who were also singled out for praise by Councillor Storey.
Full details of the competition are on page seven of the July 15th copy of the Welwyn & Hatfield Times.
