Fly tipping – check your contractor An organiser at North Mymms Community Centre is calling on the public to use reputable contractors for garden and domestic clearing work. It follows another spate of fly tipping in the centre's car park.
Volunteers at the Centre, many of them pensioners, are having to deal with 'an endless battle' to clear up after fly tippers.
In a note to this site's 'Have Your Say' section, Martin Ferdinando has called on the public to help trace those responsible.
“Anyone who had some conifer trees cut down or pruned locally by a person who only had a mobile phone number and called on the off chance? Please let us know. You may have unwittingly allowed yet more dumping,” he writes.
“Please, please, please, only use reputable companies or contractors for your gardening, building, roofing, house clearance work. Otherwise, your 'spoil' ends up in Bradmore Lane or in your Community Centre's car park,” he continues.
“You may pay less, or they may even charge you for clearing away rubbish, but your payment ends up in that person's back pocket and breaks the back of the community centre's volunteers management committee as they struggle to clear the mess up.
“Most of those committee members are pensioners. Wake up Brookmans Park and Welham Green, starve the unscrupulous traders of their 'odd jobs' and hopefully they'll go elsewhere and take their rubbish with them. Don't use them!!”
The problem for the North Mymms Community Centre, according to organisers, is that there is pubic entrance to the site for the bottle banks, the centre itself, emergency access and the usual refuse trucks and so the area can't be fenced off.
