A team of twelve and thirteen year old scouts from 2nd Hatfield (1st Brookmans Park) Scout Troop achieved the group's best ever result in a county scouting competition last weekend at Phasels Wood Scout Campsite near Kings Langley, Watford.

The annual competition - called the Green Beret Challenge is open to scouts from all over Hertfordshire and beyond, and consists of four different areas for the teams to complete: an assault course, an orienteering challenge, as well as daytime and night time activities, which consist of challenges to test scouting knowledge, teamwork and mental skills as well as general knowledge.

Despite the cold and wet weather for the weekend (the camping field and activity areas resembled a mud bath more than a field by the end of the competition), the scouts worked well together to score consistently high in all four events, and achieve fourth place, out of a total of 97 teams - a record for the troop, and an improvement of over fifty places from last year's position.

The team, pictured in front of the climbing tower at Phasels Wood, consist of Ben Ebbrell, Andrew Ward, Alan Dixon, Adam Thomas-Hayter, Julian Thakar and Daniel Barrowcliffe.
