Community improvement ideas wanted
News release issued by the North Mymms Parish Plan Steering Group
Residents of Welham Green, Brookmans Park, Little Heath and surrounding areas in North Mymms now have a chance to influence the future of their communities.
A steering group has been formed to produce the first North Mymms Parish Plan and the group is inviting fellow residents to think about the community in which they live and to contribute suggestions.
Parish plans work well for rural communities. There are 133 rural parishes in Hertfordshire and more than 25 parishes have now produced parish plans that can be seen to have brought improvements for their residents.
The North Mymms Parish Plan Steering Group is a grass roots organisation, seeking to influence planning matters from the bottom up. It has been created as a response to the top down planning that is currently prevalent in national and local government.
The group is seeking views on everything that affects peoples' lives, from minor to major issues.
This might be, for example, the need for a disabled parking place, new speed limits, environmental improvements for public open spaces, activities for children, better access for teenagers to facilities (perhaps incorporating suitable transport to entertainment and sporting facilities), help for the elderly and planning issues involving housing and waste disposal/recycling.
A leaflet inviting residents to put forward five ideas to improve their community has been delivered to every one of the 4,000 homes in the parish.
A stall incorporating display stands was set up on Bradmore Green, Brookmans Park as a part of the May Day celebrations organised on Saturday 2 May 2009.
Drop-in meetings are being held on Saturday 16 May in Brookmans Park and Welham Green, please come along between 11am-1pm to the United Reformed Church in Brookmans Park to let representatives of the group have your views, or between 2-4pm to the Memorial Hall, Welham Green.
A further drop-in meeting is going to be held on Wednesday 20 May between 7-9pm in the Edmund Room at Christ Church Parish Hall, Little Heath.
Once residents have been consulted, the group plans to set up focus groups and to produce a more detailed questionnaire to be sent around the parish. It is hoped that the parish plan will be completed by June 2010.
