Village Day goes international
By Belinda Shapps
Organisers of Village Day 2007 are delighted to report that Gary Mabbutt has kindly agreed to open the annual community event on Saturday 16 June.
The festivities get underway with a parade by street dancers from Brookmans to the primary school starting at 12:45.
The school gates will be opened to the public at 1pm and the official opening will take place in the arena, which will also be the venue for numerous activities throughout the afternoon.
Among the attractions will be displays from BMX bikers, the local karate club and a ballet group. A first this year there will even be a live auction at 2:45pm.
Commercial stalls will be set up inside the school hall, selling a variety of merchandise including childrenís books, greeting cards and aromatherapy products. Thereíll be bingo games taking place throughout the afternoon.
Attractions on the school playing field include a bungee trampoline, bouncy castles, football shoot-outs and jousting.
The popular BBQ and beer tent will be fully staffed as usual to ensure that everyone is fed and watered. This year we are also introducing wine tasting Ė another first.
For the younger children weíve organised a colouring competition and treasure hunt, and since itís the Saturday before Fatherís Day, youngsters will be able to make their own Fatherís Day cards.
We are delighted that a number of charities and community groups will be supporting the event, including the North Mymms District Green Belt Society, the local scouts, Isabel Hospice, the Willow Foundation, the Rotary Club, Friends of the Earth, the RSPB, the NCT, Chancellorís School and the Willowbrook Nursery.
The afternoon will conclude with the grand prize draw.
We have some fantastic raffle prizes and if anyone is interested in buying tickets in advance then please call me, Belinda Shapps, on 07866 590036.
