Gobions glass slides reproduced
A rare set of 12 glass lantern slides has come to light showing scenes of Gobions, some of which were previously unknown. Photographs, taken from the slides, were donated to the North Mymms Local History Society (NMLHS) by the Potters Bar & District Historical Society. The images are now stored in the NMLHS archive, but the society has given permission for them to be reproduced on this site. For more information about Gobions and the history of the house and gardens you can read the book entitled Gobions Estate North Mymms Hertfordshire by Peter Kingsford, Richard Bisgrove and Linda Jonas, which is also reproduced in full on this site. Glass slides were first used in the 17th century, mainly showing silhouettes painted or etched on the glass. In the 18th century mirror images of scenes were printed on glass and hand-coloured later.
