New primary headteacher named

A new headteacher for Brookmans Park Primary school has been appointed.

Lesley Stevens, currently the deputy headteacher at Samuel Lucas School in Hitchin, will be responsible for the village school from January 1, 2002.

Miss Stevens takes over from Peter Evans who has been the headteacher at Brookmans Park School since 1984.

Peter announced his retirement last October in order to give the school governors enough time to find and appoint a successor. The autumn term will be his last although he retires officially on December 31, 2001.

Interviews for the post were held on May 1 and the appointment panel assisted by a county adviser made its recommendation to a special governors meeting at the school.

The information contained in this news item was sent to parents by the chairman of governors, Frank Maynard.

The latest OFSTED report on Samuel Lucas School says that, "the headteacher, very ably supported by her deputy, provides clear and purposeful direction to the school...the leadership and management of the school, provided by the headteacher, deputy headteacher and subject co-ordinators is very good."
