Ten months ago the club was facing closure, now there is a fight for places as a Brookmans Park football team looks forward to the new season.

At one point last August, the manager of Brookmans Park Under-13s, Rick Dyke, had only nine players on the books, not enough to register for the Mid Herts Rural Minors League.

After several phone calls and various appeals on this site and in the Welwyn Hatfield Times, the numbers grew, but the team had to face the kick off for its first match of the 2002-2003 season with only ten players.

Now that same team has a full squad, with a total of 22 boys all keen to turn out in the orange and navy blue of Brookmans Park for the 2003-2004 season in the Under-14s first division.

This week the club holds its annual awards ceremony with a full-house expected at the North Mymms Cricket Club for the handing out of the player's player of the year award.

Rick Dyke says the shaky start to the season has helped build the team spirit. "We have some fantastic lads in the squad now, and even when we had to face teams with just ten player they all pulled together and worked as a team. Now we have a full squad the team spirit is even stronger. Everyone is really looking forward to next season," he said.
