Chess champs triple success
The Little Heath and Brookmans Park Chess Club has won its third successive Herts League Divisional Championship.
The team hasn’t lost a league match since its first campaign in 2000, and has drawn just two matches during that period.
In actual games ‘over the board’ the team has lost just nine this season and the same last season.
The club was set up in September 1999 and entered the league in the 2000-1 season.
The team ended that season as division seven champions. The 2001-2 season ended as division six champions and this season the team won division five.
Next season Little Heath and Brookmans Park Chess Club will be playing in division four following an exciting season when the club played 12 matches and won all except one, which was drawn.
Up to 50 juniors a week attend the two meeting which are held on Monday at Little Heath and Thursday at Brookmans Park. Further details from,
The chess club is holding its summer competition at Little Heath Parish Hall on Saturday 14 June from 11:00 to 16:00. The event is open to adults and juniors and the entry fee is £5.
Little Heath and Brookmans Park Chess Club has strong ties with the Hertfordshire Schools Chess Association.
The county under-9 team won the English Primary Schools Competition that the club hosted at Chancellor's School.
The event involved 19 counties and prompted Anglia TV to film a news item on the team, five of the players attend our club.
