All set for BMX track work
JCB digger still needed

Work on the renovation of the BMX track behind the North Mymms Youth and Community Centre gets underway today.

But volunteers, aiming to turn the disused track into a valuable recreational resource for the area's youth, still need the loan of a JCB digger even if only for half an hour.

If anyone has a small mechanical digger, which they are able to take along to the site to help dig and move earth, please contact James Bentall, who is heading up the project, either by phoning him on (01707) 275771 or e-mailing him at scouts.

The plan is to clear the track, rebuild some of the features and add new obstacles. The team of volunteers will work on the track from 09:00 to 16:30 today and 12:00 to 19:00 tomorrow, Saturday, June 8.

More volunteers are welcome. Those organising the event realise people might be preoccupied with the World Cup, but if you can spare any time at all, either days, please turn up and, if possible, bring gloves, spades, forks, secateurs etc. Even if you don't have any tools please feel free to turn up and join in.

The BBC has an excellent site about BMX.

The issue of finding a place for many of the area's young people to ride their bikes has been well aired in the teenagers' section of the Forum.
