Tributes paid to air crash officers
They were Sergeant Ian Alexander and Constable Andy Morton. Both served in the Roads Policing Unit in the Western Area. Ian, who was 44, lived in Hemel Hempstead and Andy, who was 41, lived in Cranfield, Bedfordshire. The two men died when their microlight aircraft was in collision with a helicopter over the Dixons Hill Road area of Welham Green at lunchtime on Tuesday 6 July. The Civil Aviation Authority and Hertfordshire Constabulary are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Chief Constable Paul Acres said the loss of the two officers has come as a terrible shock. “Our thoughts are with Ian and Andy’s families at this dreadful time and full support is being provided through family liaison officers and colleagues.” Ian Laidlaw-Dickson, Chairman of the Police Authority said it was shattering news. “Hertfordshire has lost two dedicated officers and my deepest sympathy and condolences go to their family and friends. My thanks also go to the officers and staff dealing with this tragedy for their professionalism at this very difficult time.” Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses to the crash, Anyone with information is asked to contact 01707-354236.
