Village crime night patrols suggested by MP
Mr Shapps is to meet the Hertfordshire Constabulary's Area Commander, Chief Superintendent, Alison Roome-Gifford, to talk about crime levels in the area. The Conservative MP for Welwyn Hatfield was posting in a discussion thread currently running on this site’s forum, entitled ‘Local crime and community policing’. In it, Mr Shapps writes that he intends to "raise the profile of our concerns and receive a brief on what steps are being taken to bring this situation under control. "I would have thought that additional night patrols might be part of the solution, but I will keep the forum posted of any developments," he writes. There have been a number of shop break ins around Bradmore Green during January and several incidents of car crime in nearby roads. This follows a number of break ins throughout 2004. Brookmans Park Station, has also been the scene of a number of robberies, including one last week. Mr Shapps has also written to the Chief Constable of Hertfordshire Constabulary, Frank Whiteley, "to express our concern and ask what steps are being taken to try to catch the perpetrators." The break ins and damage to the station and vehicles has led to calls from forum members for action to be taken to help cut down the levels of crime. Both the local community police officer, PC Jitu Dave, and the local Hertfordshire Constabulary Watch Liaison Officer, Christel Anslow, have also posted in the forum about the latest incidents.
