Chancellor's headteacher dies
The headteacher at Chancellor's School died following a heart attack on Wednesday night 14 January 2004.
The school has put out the following statement in which Mr Paul Wormleighton's death is described as a "grievous loss". Statement from Chancellor's School It is with infinite regret that we inform you of the sudden and unexpected death of Paul Wormleighton, Headteacher of Chancellor's school. At approximately 9pm on Wednesday, January 14, he suffered a heart attack from which he did not recover. Paul was an outstanding Head. Over the past 22 years he has been the central influence and inspiration over the school's exceptional success in improving both its achievements and its reputation. His death is a grievous loss to the school who are still in shock. Details of the funeral arrangements will be released once they have been made. The school will close on the day of the funeral in memory of and respect for not only a great Head, but also a true and generous friend of the whole Chancellor's community. Paul, aged 60, leaves behind his wife, Alison, and his daughter, Anna. Should you wish to send your condolences, we ask that they be in writing to the school.
The following is the text of the letter sent to all parents this afternoon. 15 January 2004 Dear Parents, It is with infinite regret that we inform you of the sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Paul Wormleighton, Headteacher of Chancellor's School, at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 14 January. He suffered a heart attack from which he did not recover. Mr. Wormleighton was an outstanding Head. Over the last 20 years he has been the central influence and inspiration over the School's exceptional success in improving both its achievements and its reputation. He will be a grievous loss, and in these early days we are still in shock. We feel acutely for the loss now felt by his wife Alison and his daughter Anna. Should you wish to send your condolences, we ask that they be in writing to the School. It is important that the usual activities of the School continue. To this end we need our communication by telephone, e-mail or website to be open as normal. When we know of the funeral arrangements, these will be made known. The School will be closed on that day in memory and respect for not only a great Head, but also a true and generous friend of the whole Chancellor's community. Yours sincerely,
