Local residents are being invited to comment on plans for future development at Qeenswood School.

Welwyn Hatfield District Council (WHDC) has published the Draft Master Planning Brief for the school and any comments need to be registered by the end of February.

According to WHDC, the school is identified in the authorityís district plan as a major developed site in the Green Belt.

Limited development is allowed but only in the context of a planning brief for the site.

A draft-planning brief has been prepared by the school, in consultation with WHDC, the local planning authority.

It explains the current use of the site, the educational needs, areas for limited development or redevelopment and sets out the constraints on any such development.

It covers such issues as the building size and design, access, car parking, landscaping and biodiversity.

According to WHDC, a site for a new swimming pool is identified within the master plan.

This change will be considered at the Public Local Plan Inquiry in May.

WHDC planning department says the brief is not a planning application for development on the site. Any development proposals would still require separate planning permission.

Members of the public can inspect the brief at four locations.

A copy has been placed in Brookmans Park Library, Bradmore Green. The library is open on Tuesdays from 9.30am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 6.00pm; on Thursdays from 9.30am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 6.00pm; on Fridays from 10.30am to 1.00pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 1.00pm

It can also be inspected Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the North Mymms Parish Council Office, Annex No1 Bungalow, Bushwood Close, Welham Green.

A copy is available for inspection at the Welwyn Hatfield Council Offices, The Campus, Welwyn Garden City, Monday to Thursday from 8.45am to 5.15pm, and on Fridays from 8.45am to 4.45pm.

And it can be seen at the Welwyn Hatfield Housing Office, Lemsford Road, Hatfield, from Monday to Thursday from 8.45am to 5.15pm and on Fridays from 8.45am to 4.45pm.

If people have any comments on the brief they should send them to the Chief Planning Officer at Welwyn Hatfield Council Offices, The Campus, Welwyn Garden City by Friday, February 2003.

The Councilís Planning Policy Development Committee will then consider the brief together with any comments and any suggested changes probably in March.

For further information contact either Mike Hayden on 01707-357269 or Mrs A Day on 01707-357510.
