Local shops stage Xmas market
A number of Brookmans Park's stores are putting together a Shopkeepers Christmas Market as part of an effort to promote shopping in the village.
A flyer, printed to promote the event, which takes place all day on Saturday 13 December, states:
"Brookmans Park is one of the few surviving villages which still has its own fishmonger, butchers, greengrocers, bakers, hardware shop, post office and florist. Please help us keep the village alive by supporting this event."
The market is clearly an effort to boost the local village shops and to demonstrate to local residents that the village stores can provide all they need for the festive holiday.
Bryan Smith from Bryan's Bikes and Hardware store said it is important that local residents know that they can get almost everything they need in the village. He said it is not only convenient for local residents, but shopping in the village is essential for the future survival of local stores.
"A customer summed it up this week when she said that with all the big shops offering massive discounts, she hoped people don't forget the smaller local shops which are essential for our communities. This is our attempt to show people that the village is a thriving commercial unit," he said.
The following, taken from the flyer, lists what local shops are offering.
