Station ticket machine trashed

vandalised ticket machine at Brookmans Park Station
Would CCTV have helped prevent this?

Vandals have again wrecked the ticket machine at Brookmans Park Station.

The cash and credit card payment facilities have been smashed and an automated message advises people to buy tickets elsewhere.

Not easy when the ticket office is only open until 10:30 on weekdays and the permit to travel machine has been removed after repeated vandalism.

Anyone without a season ticket, travelling to London outside ticket office hours, will now have to break their journey at Potters Bar to buy a valid ticket.

The vandalised ticket machine doesn’t look as if it has been opened, so it seems the only motive was vandalism, rather than theft.

The attack comes as First Capital Connect is reported to be considering introducing CCTV cameras at both Brookmans Park and Welham Green.

The Welwyn Hatfield Times (WHT) says that the improved security measures will be introduced over the next three years. Click here to read the WHT report.

According to the local weekly newspaper, the work will also involve the installation of customer help points at Welham Green and improvements for those with disabilities at Brookmans Park.
