Wheelie bins for garden waste

Brown wheelie bins for garden waste will be delivered from November 2004, but only if you request one.

The district council is issuing free wheelie bins for collecting garden waste.

Welwyn Hatfield District Council (WHDC) has a limited number of brown wheelie bins available and they will be issued on a first come first served basis. The new brown wheelie bins will only be delivered to residents who request them.

Although free, the bins will remain the property of WHDC. The authority says it has had a great response for the bins so far, but a number are still available.

All those who have requested the brown wheelie bins so far have been allocated bins, although the authority says it can’t confirm orders or allocations.

If you want to request a bin you can , or use the tear off form on page 11 of the July edition of the council’s LIFE magazine. Telephone requests will not be accepted. The bins will be delivered between November 2004 and March 2005.

As with the garden waste sacks, the new bins are for garden waste only – no kitchen or other waste will be accepted. They will be emptied once a fortnight.

The special garden waste sacks can still be bought for additional waste if your brown bin becomes full. These sacks can be purchased - £3.90 for 5 - from the Brookmans Park Post Office or the Pegasus Stores in Welham Green.

You can discuss the new brown wheelie bins in a thread running in this site's forum.
