Drinking water warning

Residents in south Hatfield, Welham Green, Bullens Green and Colney Heath are being urged to boil all drinking water until further notice.

Three Valleys Water says routine testing of drinking water has shown a low level of bacterial contamination in the supply to a small area of Hatfield.

Public health officials advised the company to issue the warning as a precaution.

According to the Three Valleys website, all customers in the affected area have received a hand delivered boil notice advising them:

  • Not to drink tap water without bringing it to the boil. Remember to allow it to cool
  • Use boiled water for cleaning teeth and preparing food
  • Remember pets they should not be allowed to drink the water. Boil it first and allow it to cool
  • Tap water can be used for washing and bathing
  • Tap water can be used for flushing the toilet
Three Valleys say water quality engineers have taken immediate preventative action and are conducting investigations to confirm the root cause of the problem.

The company also says the supply to customers situated outside of the areas outlined above are not affected.

Three Valleys Water has apologised for any inconvenience caused.

The issue has been raised in this site's Forum.
