Opposition to country house urged
The local green belt society is calling for a 'show of strength' in its opposition to plans to build a country house at Friday Grove – also known as the 20-acre field. Writing in this site's forum, Bob Horrocks says a strong turn out would indicate the strength of local opinion. The North Mymms and District Green Belt Society vice-chairman, Clive Bennett will speak as will Bob Horrocks, on behalf of the North Mymms Parish Council. Members of Gobions Woodland Trust will also be present. The meeting takes place on Thursday 6 April, at 7.30pm at the Council Chamber, Campus West, Welwyn Garden City. It is the same building as the skating rink and theatre. Welwyn Hatfield Council has already turned down one planning application for a country house to be built on the site on Hawkshead Road. The planning committee concluded that the building, on green belt land, should not go ahead. Planning officers produced a 25-page report stating that there were no special circumstances to justify overturning green belt policies.
