History book reprint likely

A photographic history of North Mymms, including local pictures dating back more than 130 years, could soon be reprinted.

A thousand copies of the 62-page book were snapped up in the autumn, just two weeks after going on sale.

The book, "North Mymms Pictures From the Past", is the latest work produced by the North Mymms Local History Society.

The photographic study of life in the parish took two years to compile and involved digging deep into the society’s archives, going through family photo albums and shoe boxes full of old snaps and postcards.

The book, which is reproduced in full on this site, includes almost 120 previously unpublished photographs grouped in several chapters looking at transport, the parish’s pubs, farming and people.

Now the North Mymms Local History Society (NMLHS) is considering a reprint, although, if it goes ahead, it is unlikely to be before the summer.

The NMLHS is also unclear about how much the second edition will cost. The first edition sold for only £2 a copy, but that was thanks to funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the North Mymms Parish Council.
