Local Birds Picture Gallery Page Three Next page Each year Rupert Pyrah publishes a survey of birds seen in a 10 km area around Brookmans Park. The data, which is all published on this site, goes back to 1996. In the past, the number of months a bird was seen during the year was printed below each image. However, in 2003, Rupert introduced a new system where a percentage of the total months 1996-2003 in which each species was seen is given alongside the name of the species. This is to provide a guide to the chances of seeing the bird. You can also read Rupert's full report for 2003 by clicking here. Thumbnail images have now been added (copyright details below). Click on any image to take you to a larger version and click on the link below the picture to take you to a site offering more information. Note: Images are not to scale.

Permission to use the scanned images comes from Ash Midcalf and www.birdcheck.co.uk; thanks to them for their cooperation. The illustrations on these pages are from Morris's British Birds of 1891. Although excellent, they don't offer male/female differences or show the birds in flight. Because of this, links have been provided, below each bird image, to a number of sites, which give alternative views of the birds and further information about them. The main sites linked to for this purpose are two excellent sites, Birds of Britain and British Garden Birds.
