About this siteBackground
The Brookmans Park Newsletter was set up in 1997. The aim was threefold: 1) to create a rich repository of local information, 2) to offer a local news service, and 3) to build a local community discussion forum.
The site is non profit-making and is run by volunteers who give their time for no reward other than the enjoyment of producing a vehicle for the delivery of content created by the community for the community.
The Brookmans Park Newsletter is politically independent and has no links with any political party. We do not collect user details for political or commercial gain.Finances
The webspace to accommodate the site was provided free of charge by The Positive Internet Company from launch until 2016. We approached 25 companies asking for free space when we launched in 1997. Positive was the only company to respond positively saying they would be happy to host the Brookmans Park Newsletter because it was a "positive community venture". We would like to thank Positive for their generous support. In 2016 we started to pay the annual hosting fee to Positive Internet using the revenue generated by the Google adverts running on the site, which also cover the URL renewal.
For five years ICT prize money won by North Mymms Parish in conjunction with this site was used to pay for the URL registration. That registration charge is now also covered by the revenue generated by the Google adverts on the site.Content
The content on the site includes articles and books offered for publication by local people interested in building a resource of local information (see history index) and contributions to the interactive forum. From 1997 to 2010 news stories were written to highlight issues, but in 2010 we moved that process to the forum in order to let local residents decide what was newsworthy.Articles and books

The site was set up in 1997 by two local residents, David Brewer and James Bentall. Half a dozen volunteer moderators help manage the site's forum and act as an editorial sounding board when issues arise.
